Glossary of the Gothic: Bombay

Description

The decision to set the action of a Gothic chapbook such as “History of Zoa” or “Henrietta de Bellgrave” in Bombay most likely reflects the Gothic anxieties about boundaries and othering. (See Boundaries, and Othering) It may also be related to English anxieties around British Nationalism and Imperialism.
